I discovered a perfect day in Scottsdale while visiting in January. It was a beautiful picturesque day – sun was out, not a cloud in the sky and 70 degrees.
We started the day with a hike up Camelback Mountain – not as easy as I thought it was going to be. After the two-and-a-half-hour hike and bike ride to the mountain, we rewarded ourselves with a margarita and delicious southwest cuisine. Once we were satisfied, it was time for an afternoon at the spa.
After weeks of research, I decided my spa for the afternoon would be the Spa at The Sanctuary Camelback Mountain Resort and Spa. Ranked in the Top Hotel Spas Overall & Top 5 Hotel Spas, Continental U.S. in Travel + Leisure’s World’s Best 2014, needless to say I was excited.
The spa itself is perched on a small hill, set off from the main hotel. The beautiful manicured grass leads you to the spa, with the stunning background of Camelback Mountain. The entrance to the spa was through a quiet courtyard that connected you to the spa boutique and salon.
The spa is Asian inspired which you register immediately as you enter – lots of grey earth tones. I was running a bit behind schedule so did not have a chance to enjoy the amenities until after my massage. The treatment room was beautiful and cozy, including a burning fireplace.
After the massage I retreated to the women’s facilities to enjoy all it had to offer. I took a quick dip in the hot-tub then moved on to the relaxation room. My favorite discovery was the quiet room – a sanctuary with 12 relaxation chairs, donned with warm blankets. Cell phones were not allowed – this was 100% a place to relax, reflect, and recharge. I curled up and took a nap after my long morning.
It was a perfect afternoon, after an active morning. Sanctuary Spa is a beautiful spot to spend some time alone and recharge while in Scottsdale. A full service day spa, you can easily loose a day enjoying everything it has to offer, including the hotel pool.
